One of Optimus's primary lieutenants in the early Transformers cartoon, Jazz is usually either working at Prime's right hand or serving as the leader of whatever squad Prime isn't on himself. Despite the authority he wields, Jazz makes sure to do everything with style. Jazz's favorite catch phrases include "coolsville" and "daddy-o".
Yes, it sounds horribly dated now. It was probably dated even then, but still much cooler than anything the other Transformers were likely to say, and he said it with such conviction. Plus, he was just more likable than most of the Autobots, most of whom were great guys to have Defending the Earth but came off as just a little too serious about their day-to-day jobs.
As with many G1 characters, Jazz can be expensive to find mint-in-box from his first run, but otherwise isn't difficult to locate for the more casual collectors. He's been reissued multiple times, and as recently as 2008, so even a collector on a budget can probably afford a modern recreation of this cool cat.
