Here's a quick quiz - What do Lincoln Logs, the airplane, and Fallingwaters have in common? They were all designed or invented by men named "Wright".

Fallingwaters is one of the more famous examples of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright's work. But for our purposes, his more important contribution to the world was that he was the father of John L. Wright who invented Lincoln Logs in 1916.

Old style Lincoln Logs are wooden sticks with notches on both ends that allow construction of forts, fences, barns and, yes, log cabins.

It is thought that Lincoln Logs were named after President Abraham Lincoln, who, of course, was born in a log cabin. However, it is interesting to note that John L. Wright's father's given middle name was Lincoln (he changed to Lloyd) - so it could be that the name is a dual reference to the President and the inventor's father.
