In 1977, artist Muriel Fahrion designed the first Strawberry Shortcake. This incredibly cute little doll started out as simply a cute American Greetings card. Who knew that Strawberry Shortcake would become such a huge phenomenon?
Strawberry Shortcake and Custard (her cat) were the first characters in the Strawberry Shortcake line. Strawberry Shortcake soon had many playmates, all of whom had their own pets.
Some of the unique characteristics of the Strawberry Shortcake line are that each character has a special hair scent that corresponds to their names, many of the characters have their own pets with dessert/fruit names, and each character's clothes reflect his/her particular dessert/fruit name and scent.
