When Disney came out with the exciting TV miniseries, Davy Crockett, in December 1954, they were pleased with just how many viewers tuned in to watch the programs. The company quickly manufactured some Davy Crockett inspired merchandise that they could sell.
One of the best-loved and fastest selling items for boys and girls was the Davy Crockett raccoon tail hat. Manufacturers usually made this hat of faux fur with a raccoon striped tail, but some made real fur hats. There was a girls' version of the hat made. It was a white hat with coon-striped tail. Still today, the Davy Crockett raccoon tail hat symbolizes the brave spirit of the frontiersmen like Davy Crockett.
