"Davy Crockett" aired on ABC during its Disneyland show, and was comprised of five one-hour shows. It is considered to be the very first mini-series for any television show. The first three episodes of the series were put together and made as the 1955 theatrical film, "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier".
The five part series was a complete success. Even Walt Disney was surprised at how well the shows were received. By the time "Davy Crockett" was done, Disney had everything from coonskin caps to bubblegum cards saturating the marketplace. Walt Disney Home Video released a two-movie set of "Davy Crockett" on DVD in September of 2004.
Fess Parker portrayed Davy Crockett (and later Daniel Boone) on television. Many history buffs and teachers felt that these shows caused a permanent misconception of the two North American heroes, and sometimes, people confused the two historical figures because of Fess Parker portraying both of them!
Fess Parker passed away March 18, 2010 of natural causes; he was 85.
