Risk could well be the board game that many people remember as the game that transitioned them from easy board games to strategy-intense "more difficult" games. Risk is a game that uses a map which includes six continents, with forty two different territories divided amongst the continents.
Each of the Risk players has one objective: to rule the world (in this case all of the forty two territories) and knock the other players out of the game. Of course, to become the world's ruler, the players must secure their borders and dominate entire continents.
